Our facilities

Supported by the very latest technology, equipment and facilities Royston Hospital provides the most comprehensive range of private surgical facilities in the Hawke’s Bay area. Our facilities include:

Operating Theatres

The operating suite comprises 3 theatres, an endoscopy procedure room, modern CSSD and an 8-bed recovery unit fully equipped to meet the requirements of modern surgery. In 2006 a state-of-the-art digital theatre was commissioned to support the Royston Hospital theatre complex.

Day Surgery Unit (DSU)

Our day surgery unit is situated adjacent to the operating theatres and specialises in care and support for patients to have surgery and be discharged home on the same day, usually within two to three hours. Your specialist will admit you through this unit whenever clinically appropriate.

The benefits of day surgery include less time away from home and work, a smooth streamlined admission, surgery, recovery and discharge process, as well as being at a reduced cost as a private room is not utilised.

However, if it is your personal preference to have a private room even though your procedure does not necessitate this, you should discuss this with your specialist as soon as possible. A room booking can then be made for you.

In some circumstances following surgery, it may be necessary to transfer a day surgery patient to the ward for ongoing monitoring. If this is the case, an accommodation fee will be charged.

Inpatient rooms

At Royston we endeavour to accommodate our patients in a room suitable to their needs. Overnight patients may choose (subject to availability and appropriate to your procedure) a suite or a private room with en-suite.

About our rooms

Our three suites offer a superior level of comfort. These suites are larger than the normal rooms, each with fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities, TV/DVD with Sky, and free broadband internet access. They also feature inside/outside living with a large private deck area. Suites incur an additional charge over and above our usual room rate, although many medical insurance policies will cover this in whole or in part. Please contact the hospital to seek more information. Patients covered by ACC may elect to pay a surcharge to enjoy the special comfort provided by having a suite.

All patient rooms have TV (Sky), radio and telephone and complimentary copies of the Hawke's Bay Today and Sunday Star Times newspapers are provided. A selection of general-interest and sporting magazines is also available for your reading pleasure.

A bathrobe will be provided for use during your stay and a hairdryer is available on request.

Electrical Appliances

For safety reasons all privately owned 240 volt electrical appliances brought into the hospital must be checked by an electrician and a certificate produced on request. This includes radios, hairdryers, ‘plug-in’ electric shavers and other devices. When these devices, including electronic equipment, are not in use we ask that you store them within your bedside cabinet away from table top areas required for nursing intervention and food/fluid placement.

Royston Centre

The Royston Centre adjoining the hospital provides specialist consulting rooms as well as cardiology, physiotherapy and radiology facilities. Click on the link to view the contact details of specialists who hold clinical privileges at Royston Hospital and have rooms in the Royston Centre.

Cardiologist, Dr Richard Luke has his private practice in the Royston Centre and provides an excellent referral service for patients requiring cardiac review prior to their surgery.

The Royston Centre is also home to the team at Focus Health Physiotherapy and as well as seeing patients privately, they are also happy to provide their services to Royston Hospital inpatients.

Finally, Hawke’s Bay Radiology complement the services available in the Royston Centre. They provide a comprehensive radiology service including general x-ray, mammography, MRI and CT scanning.

Car parking

An area is available at the front of the hospital for dropping off and picking up patients, and a large car parking area is located opposite the hospital entrance in Prospect Road, with entry from either Southland or Prospect Road.

Please note that Royston accepts no responsibility for car security.

Gardens

Our hospital is set amongst tranquil gardens which you and your visitors are welcome to enjoy.

Smoke-free site

A smoke-free policy applies throughout the hospital, grounds and Royston Centre. Smokers will be required to document their understanding of this requirement on admission to Royston.
